The president of the AHAA for 2009 is Laurie KnoxLaurie has been involved in Appaloosas since the age of 10 and rose up through the youth ranks to show at both the National and World level.  Living on a farm 20 miles east of Sherwood Park with her husband Lonny Vanderheide, 25 plus horses, 4 dogs, 2 barn cats and a guinea pig named Gordon keeps her very busy.  She also works full time as a Civilian Member with the RCMP as an emergency dispatcher.  Her family has been raising horses since the early 1970’s and have bred multiple World and National Champions in the last 10 years.  Although Laurie and Lonny are the only family currently living on the farm, Laurie’s parents Stewart and Mary Knox as well as her older sister Gayle are all involved in the horses too.  Currently Knox Appaloosas stands U.S.National Champion Sacred Dream and they try to promote his get as well as other Alberta bred horses at the World level.

If you have any questions, suggestions or offers of help to the AHAA, Laurie would love to hear from you.

Committees:  Sales & Marketing, Spruce Meadows

Hi, My name is Daryl Marler. I am proud to be your AHAA Vice President for 2009. I have had horses in my life since I was 4 years old mostly riding on my parents cattle farm. Participating in cattle 4H for 11 years I had success in showmanship & public speaking. My wife Chris, daughter Tess & I reside on our Appaloosa farm in the Elk Island Park area. This is our 2nd year showing with AHAA. Our family has enjoyed showing our yearlings, geldings plus our Canadian champion & World champion producing stallion Fit to Sizzle. A huge bonus is meeting & making great friends that participate with enthusiasm. My duties include Marketing & Sales plus organizing Spruce Meadows. The 2009 show season will be a exciting one. Please contact me or any of our other capable directors if you want to present any concerns, ideas, questions or wish participate in any way with the AHAA. Get Spotted at an Appaloosa Horse Show!

I have been a part of the show seasons with the AHAA for the last three years. However, this is my first year as a member. I volenteer at the shows as a helper. I have had the pleasure of meeting some great people, as well as some great horses. I am married with three beautiful children. They have accompanied me to many of the shows. You may have seen them fetching water, or shaving's for the horses. They love to help. I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the club this year as secretary. If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact me.

I am proud to be the youth director for the AHAA. Along with my husband Rob and daughter Stephanie we own and operate a boarding and training stable 40 NE of Edmonton. We have been showing Appaloosas for nearly 20 yrs, specializing in coaching youth and non pro riders and their horses. I have also coached the Alberta Youth Team several times. Looking forward to building our youth program by increasing our youth members and opening new opportunities. Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.

I have been involved with horses from the age of 10 and my family has been in the business of raising Quarter Horses for  many years.  As a member of the AHAA I have been showing for the past three years and will continue to in the future. I find the Appaloosa one of the most diverse breeds and each one  very unique.  My long term goal is to start a breeding  program for Halter Performance horses.

I am excited to be a director for the AHAA and I am looking forward to giving back to an organization from which I have received a world of kindness, help, and encouragement.  The people of the AHAa are truly one of a kind!

Committees: Social

As the social commitee director, I'm looking forward to some fun times for our members in the coming season.  Along with my husband Darwin, we own and operate a small boarding stable in the Ardrossan area. We are blessed with a "Stable Family" of people who are devoted horse lovers and we continue to enjoy and promote the Appaloosa breed. The coming show season will be an exciting time and we encourage everyone to "LIVE YOUR DREAMS".
